Center for Curatorial Leadership Announces 2022 Fellows

The Center for Curatorial Leadership (CCL) is pleased to announce the milestone fifteenth cohort of curators participating in its annual Fellowship. Following a competitive review process, twelve Fellows were selected for their exceptional curatorial and scholarly excellence, demonstrated collaborative thinking, and commitment to cultural leadership. The incoming class of Fellows will travel to New York City for two weeks of initial instruction in January, followed by a final week of instruction in May. In addition to rigorous coursework led by Columbia Business School, the Fellows will meet with a variety of leaders in the field, as well as develop and complete individual and peer-learning projects. CCL is delighted to host an in-person January intensive for the first time in nearly two years.

The 2022 cohort represents twelve institutions across the United States, ranging from large-scale encyclopedic museums and contemporary art centers to culturally specific institutions and museums on the campuses of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The Fellows join CCL from a spectrum of institutional and geographic contexts across the United States, including Los Angeles, Denver, St. Louis, Dallas, New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C. A wide variety of areas of art historical expertise is also represented among the Fellows, whose specialties include Latin American art, feminist practices in contemporary art, African American material culture, contemporary decorative arts, and Italian Renaissance art.

With exceptional careers to date, each member of the 2022 cohort has a commitment to scholarly work that stretches beyond their field of study, creating opportunities for partnership and collaboration and advancing discourse about the roles and responsibilities of museums today. The diversity among the Fellows of scholarship, institution type, and geographic context adds complexity to the cohort and will make for rich discussions about the roles and responsibilities of museums.

During the 2022 CCL Fellowship, these curators will continue to develop in their careers by building the skills, tools, and experiences necessary to engage with the shifting museum landscape and to assume and succeed in leadership positions. The Fellowship will emphasize multidisciplinary approaches to leadership and self-knowledge and consider the social responsibility of museums. As CCL celebrates fifteen years of the Fellowship, we look to our Fellows as the future of the field. We are impressed by the accomplishments and achievements of these twelve curators to date, and excited by their potential as the next generation of institutional leaders. It is with this sense of promise that CCL welcomes this cohort to our growing network of museum leaders across the world.
